Welcome back to all our students following the half term holiday. This is quite a long half term, with it being eight weeks where a lot of important learning will be taking place in school. A reminder that we do expect all our students to have 100% attendance over the course of the year, with evidence that only 3% of pupils with less than 50% attendance achieve 5 A* – C including English and Maths whereas 73% of pupils with over 95% attendance achieve 5A* – C including English and Maths.
This month will see students involved in a number of additional events with Year 10 visiting UCLan and Lancaster Universities, Year 8 being involved in Geography enrichment talks and an author visit on Friday 15 November will see some of our Year 10 and Year 11 students involved in a Writing Workshop. Information about these activities will be sent home closer to the dates.
In addition, a number of parental events are taking place in the coming weeks, with the first being on Wednesday 6 November when all parents are invited to attend one of two sessions on that day, either 9.30 am – 10.45 am or 6.30 pm – 7.45 pm. These sessions will be attended by Gary Wilson, one of the country’s leading experts on raising boys’ achievement who will be speaking about ways in which we can all support our young people to achieve their best. Free refreshments will be provided and parents are asked to please contact school to inform us of their attendance – either by email on firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone, 01253 876757. The second event is an Autumn Music Concert taking place on Wednesday 20 November from 7pm. Our Performing Arts Department have been working hard with students to ensure this will be an evening of fabulous entertainment. Tickets cost £3 each and can be purchased in advance or on the door. At the end of the month will see us host our annual Presentation Evening, which is an opportunity for us to spend time with Year 11, 2019 to present them with their certificates and awards.
