Unbelievably we are now in October, following four very busy weeks in school. Our Open Evening, which took place at the beginning of term, was extremely well attended and additional tours will be arranged to take place over the coming weeks for those families that couldn’t make the event, or would like to see the school in operation during a normal working day.
The recent Parents’ Coffee Morning saw us welcome 32 parents and carers. Along with tea and cakes, time was spent discussing some of the work taking place in school including our focus on Literacy and the assessment of student progress over the course of the year, with key dates for each year group being issued (details of this can be found on our website) – more of these morning events will take place during the course of the year which parents will be invited to attend. Our next Parent Council event will take place next half term, on Wednesday 6 November, when we will be welcoming an external speaker, Gary Wilson, to come and present to parents at a morning and evening session – please put this date in your diary as we would love to see as many of our Fleetwood Family there!
Year 11 continue to work hard towards their final GCSE exams. Last Thursday a number of parents and students attended a ‘Help Your Child Succeed’ event with staff being available to give tips and advice on how parents can help and support their son/daughter to ‘Achieve their personal best’ in these summer exams. We are planning on holding similar events for other year groups over the coming months. In addition, our first Year 11, 4pm – 6pm Revision Session took place earlier this week which focussed on Maths, with more than 100 students returning to receive focused work from members of our Maths team. The next session is due to take place on Tuesday 8 October with the Science Department leading on this. The final session of this half term will then be with English on Tuesday 15 October.
Looking forward to the coming weeks, we continue to be busy with our first fundraising event taking place for Year 7 students on Thursday 10 Octoberwith them taking part in the “Hello Yellow” Young Minds Campaign. Students can replace one item of their uniform for a piece of yellow clothing for a minimum of a £1 donation. This could be: a yellow tie; a yellow jumper instead of a blazer; a yellow dress/skirt; a yellow t-shirt instead of a shirt and tie or even yellow socks! The following day, back in full school uniform, Year 7 and Year 11 students will have their school photographs taken.
As in previous years, we shall again be holding Year 7 Review Days. These are planned for the last week of half term and is an opportunity for parents to meet with their child’s Form Tutor to discuss progress so far – more details will be sent home by the Year 7 team closer to the dates.
Finally, a reminder that school will be closed on Friday 4 October for all students, with staff being involved in training. School will re-open at normal time on Monday 7 October.
