Headteacher’s Blog February 2020

It is a great pleasure to write this month’s edition of the Headteacher’s blog.

As you will know, I have been filling in for Mr Barnes whilst he is out of school. I have really enjoyed the last five weeks and getting to know staff, students and some of the parents. I am grateful for the support from the school community as I have settled in FHS.

Last half term ended very positively, I am sure Year 11 students enjoyed their fancy dress and it was great to see everyone getting in to the spirt of the last day of term. When students finished, staff continued working on the training day, which focussed on careers education, employability and how we can continue to develop our students’ literacy skills.

As this new half term gets underway, I have been impressed by the way students have returned to school. Year 11 students in particular have an important half term ahead as they prepare for their examinations.

There are a number of important events coming up which are listed below. I am especially looking forward to seeing the production of Aladdin. I have seen some of the rehearsals and it is brilliant to see so much talent on the stage!

Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 February     School Production – Aladdin, 7pm

Tuesday 10 March                                          Primary Science Challenge, 3pm

Tuesday 17 March                                          NCS Parents’ Evening, 5.30 pm

Thursday 2 April                                              Talent Spotters, 6pm

As we reflect on the term ahead, I have been talking about the power of resilience and staying focussed when times may be difficult. I recently shared a story of the highly successful JK Rowling, who when she was younger, had a very challenging time. She overcame those difficulties and barriers and went on to become one of the most famous and successful British authors in the world. A great example of when tenacity, hard-work, optimism and a refusal to give in wins the day.

I am looking forward to the next few weeks and to continue to see great, positive work from FHS students this term.
